SSA training in detail

At the end of the training, the learner must be able to integrate into an evolving surveillance system and implement coordinated operational rescue techniques using specialized equipment.

In particular, he must be able to:

  • to situate its role and its mission within a system and to adapt to the conditions of the moment;

  • to carry out an analysis of the particular risks present in its area;

  • to develop prevention actions adapted to the risks and practices in its area;

  • to participate in a surveillance system by implementing appropriate operational techniques and possibly implementing specific equipment;

  • to participate in a coordinated rescue action, in its area, or in the immediate vicinity of it, using appropriate operational techniques or implementing specific equipment (fins, tube buoy, rope, rescue board);

  • to carry out the appropriate first aid actions (water exit, traumatized victim, accident involving fauna and flora, drowning, thermal accident).

The “coastal water surveillance and rescue” teaching unit may include an optional skill relating to the piloting of motorized watercraft. The acquisition of this optional skill should allow the learner to safely integrate these means during coordinated rescue actions.

The learner will have to participate in all the training modules:

• Meet the certification procedures.

• Perform correctly, during the learning sequences, all the techniques and procedures discussed during the training.

• Demonstrate, during the simulation sequences, the achievement of all the objectives of the training, in terms of theoretical, practical and behavioral skills.

• Any water rescuer who is looking for a qualification to practice in the natural environment (on beaches, at sea, in lakes, in bodies of water) with sufficient knowledge and skills to set up appropriate prevention and ensure safe rescue.

• Persons holding or undergoing training at the PSE 2 and at the BNSSA.

• The “coastal option” or “river option” boat license will be necessary if the candidate is considering the SSA with the mention pilotage.

About 28 hours of face-to-face teaching (+ 7 hours with the piloting option).

To maintain its validity, the SSA certificate must be renewed every year to keep its skills and knowledge up to date.
